Just because Charlie Sheen's grand marshal of Wenatchee parade doesn't mean he'll be there

WENATCHEE - Hollywood bad boy Charlie Sheen has been named grand marshal of Wenatchee?s 2012 St. Patrick?s Day parade.

But if he actually shows up, it?ll be the first time in the history of the quirky parade, which dates to 1981. Egypt?s embattled former president, Hosni Mubarak, was named grand marshal of last year?s parade. Former U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney had the honor in 2006.

The parade will begin at the customary "7ish" Saturday evening, with Wenatchee Mayor Frank Kuntz, Wenatchee police and Apple Blossom royalty leading the way.

The Mission Street to Wenatchee Avenue route - one block along Orondo Avenue - has been called by organizers the "shortest St. Patrick?s Day route in the world."

Up to 30 entries are expected to march, according to a news release by Tom Irvin of the Wenatchee Downtown Kiwanis and David Herald, owner/partner of Sunny FM Radio.

Entry forms are available at the Wenatchee Downtown Association, 103 Palouse St. and at the Sunny FM office at 33 N. Chelan Ave. It?s also possible to "just show up," according to the news release. No motorcycles will be allowed in the parade nor candy-throwing to the public.

The parade?s brain trust, the "Royal Order of Hiberians," has named CEO of Godfather?s Pizza and former presidential candidate Herman Cain as the event?s public relations director.

Allen Stanford, the Texas financier convicted of fraud, has been named finance director, and model Gisele Bundchen, wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, as communications director.

Getting Good Auditory Care

We all know that we should take care of ourselves by eating right, keeping active and receiving good medical care whenever needed. And, as we progress in age, this kind of proactive, healthy living becomes even more paramount. Yet, so many men and women put off visiting a Shreveport hearing center even as they find it more and more difficult to follow their loved ones? conversations.

Frederick ?Dicky? Billedeaux, who owns two Miracle-Ear Shreveport hearing centers?one is located in Bossier City?says that oftentimes, the person suffering from hearing loss is the last one to recognize or admit it. In these instances, it often comes down to the spouse or family members to convince their hard-of-hearing loved one to get a free, comprehensive hearing test at a Shreveport hearing center. Billedeaux also brings the hearing center to those most likely in need through his participation in senior expos and other community-oriented activities.

He says that when someone with diminished capacity for hearing finally gets help in his Shreveport hearing center, it?s a beautiful thing.

?Every single day you see people smile,? he said of his job. One man was so overjoyed at being able to hear better, he grabbed Billedeaux?s arm and expressed his disbelief. But, by putting off a visit to a Miracle-Ear hearing center, people are just sentencing themselves to an ever-worsening condition.

Contrast that picture with what awaits a patient at one of Billedeaux?s Miracle-Ear hearing centers. Each center is staffed by qualified employees who are doctors of audiology, hearing instrument specialists and more. Their kind and competent service will help guide the patient through a detailed interview, hearing tests and a thorough discussion on which type of device would best meet his or her hearing loss, aesthetic desire and ? always important ? budget.

But, even beyond that initial visit to the hearing center, customers form an ongoing relationship with the Miracle-Ear specialists. They return every few months for complimentary cleanings of their devices and annually for a checkup to make sure the hearing aid is fulfilling their needs. Billedeaux?s customers are also able to make use of the ? pretty singular ? fact that he owns an F.D.A. registered hearing aid manufacturing and repair lab. This lab is on average only an hour or so drive from most of his hearing centers, and allows him to make emergency repairs in an expedited manner. So citizens of Shreveport and its surrounding areas have nothing to lose in visiting a Miracle-Ear hearing center ? well, nothing except their increasingly poor hearing.

'Unique' prongwort discovery made

12 March 2012 Last updated at 20:33 ET

A nature reserve in the Scottish Highlands is the only place in the world where a type of liverwort plant has been found growing.

DNA analysis confirmed northern prongwort was unique to the Beinn Eighe national nature reserve in Wester Ross.

Scientists from Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh also said they had identified a previously unknown species of liverwort in Shetland.

Called Viking prongwort, it has also been found in a Norwegian fjord.

Beinn Eighe is Britain's oldest reserve, having been created in 1951. It is managed by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH).

Liverworts thrive on cool, damp, north facing mountain slopes.

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and SNH said the discoveries of the northern and Viking prongworts were exciting.

Dr David Genney, SNH's specialist on mosses and liverworts, said: "We have an amazing wealth of bryophytes - mosses and liverworts - in Scotland and some of them are found nowhere else in the world.

"Beinn Eighe in Wester Ross is the only location on Earth for Herbertus borealis - the plant's botanical name - where luckily it grows in profusion on the mountain side.

"It is a special example of the Scottish liverwort heath, a miniature forest of liverworts which grows among the heather of hills in the west Highlands."

SNH said the main threat to the plants was uncontrolled moor burning.

It said hill fires which swept through the west Highlands last spring were suspected of having harmed the globally important wildlife.

David Bell, a researcher with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, added: "This population of northern prongwort is of global importance as this is the only location it is known on Earth.

"Its closest relatives are in Asia and further research is needed to determine whether the northern prongwort has its origins in the Himalayas.

"We are fortunate that this population is so well protected on the reserve because the community as a whole is extremely sensitive to burning. We now think that the species' conservation status should be reassessed due to its rarity."

Residence Enhancement Made As Easy As Possible | flooring ...

Home improvement projects can be so much work. Moreover, if you are a newbie, there is a lot that you should be considering and keeping in mind as you get started. From gathering your supplies to knowing when it is time to give in and get a professional, you need these home improvement tips to guide you through the various stages of any project you could take on. Click here to know more about breville?juicer?reviews today.

Give yourself adequate time to finish a home improvement project. Do not think you?ll get your bathroom completed in 2 days, or finish a kitchen in a week. Consider that things WILL go wrong which will lead to having to purchase more material, new tools, or possibly hiring someone to fix your mistakes.

When looking to save money on energy, adding new energy efficient fixtures is an easy home improvement that can be done without a contractor. Adding energy efficient ceiling fan will not only add beauty, but will cut down on your cooling cost. Simply trading out your old incandescent bulbs to more energy efficient fluorescent ones can save you on energy costs.

Pile your home improvement lumber behind your couch! Don?t have a place to store your long pieces of lumber while you?re working on a project? Just pile it neatly behind your couch and no one will ever know it?s there. You?ll keep it dry, safe, and ready for the next time you are inspired!

If it is at all practical, do repair-type home improvement projects as soon as you notice a problem. Much of the damage that occurs to your home is the sort that you can live with and soon forget. You must resist this impulse! The different systems of your home are closely connected and damage can spread with shocking speed. A small problem can become a big one faster than you can imagine.

Take a sponge to your drywall! Don?t sand your drywall seams, sponge them. With practice, a wet sponge is just as effective in smoothing out the seams of a drywall job as is careful sanding. The advantage is that sponging doesn?t kick up all of the dust that sanding does.

When designing a renovation for your home, consider the specific circumstances of your house. There are many renovations you could do to your home that wouldn?t fit given the weather conditions or other environmental factors of your area. Make sure the changes you want to make don?t rely on a change in the local climate as well.

Watch for carpet installation sales at local locations of national home improvement retailers. They will often offer installation for a low, low cost to encourage carpet purchases. This is a great time to have new carpet put into your home, as the cost of labor and installation, often can exceed the cost of the actual product.

If you are buying tools and equipment for a home improvement project, don?t cheap out on the essentials. For example, a cheaply-built ladder will often fall apart while being used and low-quality paintbrushes may shed bristles into the paint, leaving ugly marks on the walls. Aim for middle-grade equipment if you are on a budget, otherwise, you may be in for some nasty accidents.

When planning your kitchen, make sure your stove and your refrigerator are not right next to each other. If you set them side-by-side, they will both have to work too hard. You will waste energy and get less life from your appliances with this arrangement, and neither will perform optimally.

To give your kitchen a facelift without a complete overhaul, consider painting your counter tops. There are specific types of paint meant for covering Formica or other laminate counters; these paints dry to a hard finish that can withstand the demands of a kitchen surface. Painting your counters is a great way to update your decor or hide stains without the expense of replacing them.

An easy way to save money with home improvements is to never have to be forced into doing them by keeping up with the maintenance and repairs on your property. Once a month you should walk around your home and take specific notice of what is in need of repair and fix it.

Before you commit to a new paint color for the exterior of your home, spend some time driving around and looking at homes that you like the look and color scheme of. Paint chips are too hard to envision, so seeing it in person can help you make a better decision.

Consider green alternatives to standard building materials when renovating or remodeling your home. Materials like cork and bamboo come from sustainable resources and are used to create flooring, furniture and other items that you can use to update your home in an environmentally conscious way. Using these materials is a great way to support eco-friendly practices and lessen your impact on the environment.

In just a few steps, you have discovered how to make the rooms of your home look new and inviting. A few color changes here, new accessories there, and each room is transformed and ready for prime time. Revamp your rooms, over time, using these tips and you will be proud of your home for many years to come. Find out more about best upright vacuum cleaner today.
